Northern Michigan timber valuation records, 1953-1966.

The Northern Michigan timber valuation records consists of eight ledgers and three maps that document the acreage, types of trees, cut status and value of land and timber donated to the Ford Motor Company Fund by Ford Motor Company in 1953. Ledgers include two copies of "an appraisal of Timberlands donated to the Ford Motor Company Fund on December 28, 1953" which includes the communities of Alberta, Amasa, Champion, Chatham, Ontonagon and Skanee. Another ledger of the same date includes timber inventory records arranged by section, town and range documenting the acreage, types of timber available on those properties and cut status (virgin, selective or cutover). The "Analysis of Proposed Package Sale of Timberlands" (September 15, 1955) ledger includes the counties of Dickinson, Iron, Baraga, Marquette, Alger, Ontonagon and Houghton and documents the number of acres and cut status. Four ledgers of "cruise sheets" provide information about the land, collected by surveyors in preparation for its sale. The sheets include some hand-colored topographical maps showing virgin timber, swamps, ponds, etc. and an indication of the types of timber available on the property. Most ledgers are arranged according to section, range and township and include data collected from 1960 to 1966. One volume includes data for properties sold to E. O'Hara; Celotex Corporation; All-Wood, Inc.; Huron Mt. Club; Connor and V.E. Ahonen. Three rolled canvas maps show Ford Motor Company timber holdings in the counties of Ontonagon, Alger, Baraga, Marquette, Iron and Dickinson. Finally, one folder of documents includes a "Review of Ford Motor Company Fund Land and Timber Records" (February 29, 1956), a Ford Motor Company Fund memorandum to its Board considering the sale of timber land to Celotex Corporation (April 19, 1956) and a memo on the closing between the Fund, Ford Motor Company and Celotex (June 29, 1956).

8 volumes and 3 maps.
