One photo is a portrait of Hopper photographed by Soichi Sunami, ca. 1928. Photo was used as the frontispiece in the 1931 Whitney Museum volume on Hopper. The other is a photo of Hopper standing on the patio of his house, 1959, annotated on reverse in an unknown hand: "Edward Hopper, Huntington Hartford Foundation, Pacific Palisades, California, April 1959," photographer unknown.

Edward Hopper (July 22, 1882 – May 15, 1967) was an American realist painter and printmaker. While he is widely known for his oil paintings, he was equally proficient as a watercolorist and printmaker in etching. Hopper created subdued drama out of commonplace subjects 'layered with a poetic meaning', inviting narrative interpretations. He was praised for "complete verity" in the America he portrayed.
