The collection comprises four diaries that capture distinct periods of this young woman's life, when she was single, then following her marriage. The 1893 volume was written while she was single, working, and living at home. Topics include looking for work, finding a job in an office, visits to the Chicago World's Columbian Exposition, and other daily activities with family and friends. There is a completed cash account section, as well as a memoranda section where she listed letters she received. In the 1900 volume, Alberta recounted six months she spent working in New York City and living near her sister, Mabel. Topics include going to Brooklyn to visit her sister, evenings spent with others in the boarding house, eating, reading, conversing, and going out to events. She also described her work taking dictation at the Institute of Social Economics for three months, before moving to a stenographer's position in another office. Includes a cash account section where she outlined her financial expenses for the six months. In the 1911 and 1913 volumes, she concentrated on her activities as a wife and mother. The volumes also include descriptions of her extensive work on many social committees including, among others, the King's Daughters, Sophie Wright Circle, Printing Committee, Thimble Club, Woman's Club, and Street Vigilance Committee, as well as the local Board of Education.
