Personal and business papers, correspondence, election reports, postal records, and legal documents of George Washington Cross, his family, and residents of Montezuma, Ind. Cross's papers, 1836-1853, deal with personal and business matters, including his work as postmaster and inspector of elections in Montezuma. Election reports, 1840-1846, are from Montezuma and Parke County. There are also legal papers concerning the estate of Austin Jenkins, 1845-1846; personal papers of Eliza Jane Cross, 1852-1870; letters to Sharon Case, Cross's son-in-law, 1865-1880, mostly from family in Ohio; letters to Nathaniel Wilson, 1841-1846, mainly from family in Ohio; and Addison Dixon's Civil War discharge, 1864.
