Escaped from Nazi Germany as a teenager. In 1956 he moved to Denver, Colo. at the invitation of Helen G. Bonfils, a producer and actress who also owned The Denver Post newspaper. Lowenstein managed the Bonfils Theater until 1985 when it was closed. Considered by many as the "father of Denver theater." From the description of Oral history, 1981 March 2 [sound recording].
