Provisions for administration of colonies in the New World; certified copy of decree issued by Philip V of Spain, Madrid, November 4, 1728, approving with some exceptions the Ordinances of Mexico City as revised June 3, 1720; copies of decrees, orders, and official correspondence, Spain and Mexico, relating to political, socio-economic, and ecclesiastical affairs in the New World, particularly New Spain, with frequent reference to the treatment of Indians and to trade with the Philippines. Philip V was king of Spain from 1700-1746, and was the first Bourbon ruler. In 1724, Philip abdicated the throne of Spain to his eldest son, Louis, but resumed it later that year after Louis died of smallpox.
