Dictation provides biographical information: early life as seaman; to California in 1855; unsuccessful attempts mining; business ventures in Oroville and San Francisco, including shipping and commission business; other business interests; election as state senator in 1869 and as governor, 1879; other public service appointments, etc. Also included: letter from Perkins to Morrison, Dec. 31, 1888; two letters to H.H. Bancroft, from Sessions and from Morrison; notes on Sessions' impressions of Perkins; transcripts of newspaper articles on Perkins.
