ALS, 1867 May 6 : Mexico, to [Ms.] Otelia J. Degollado.

Clarke writes relating to his letter of April 16 and advises Otelia Degollado that Jackson ... "Whom you employed to take a message from Father Fischer to the Emperor at Quaretaro has been arrested by Porfirio Diaz and sent to prison to Toluca ... the object you so much cherished ... has been defeated ... You see had you started on this expedition as you first intended, what your fate could have been. Your sex would not have prevented your arrest."
