ALS, 1867 April 16 : Mexico, to [Ms.] Otelia J. Degollado.

Clarke writes to Otelia Degollado, who served as lady-in-waiting to Express Carlotta of Mexico, in response to her request for "A company of Americans (who) can be raised for the purpose of escorting the Emperor out of the country." Clarke advises her that there are "a number of unemployed Americans of the right spirit now in this city, ... from which "a company can be organized. Clarke suggests that she contact Capt. Jackson to make the arrangements for "It is no consistent, however, with my views and plans to participate in such an enterprize."
