Rewritten from Hayes' diary (with entry for [Jan. 30, 1850]) including notes on journey of Jacob "Gruel" [i.e. Gruwell] from "Eutaw Valley" via the Hastings and Lassen Cutoffs, and his family's journey over the southern route to the Mojave River; waybill of the southern road from Salt Lake to Williams' Ranch supplied by [H] Stickney (of the Pomeroy party); copy of journal, Sept. 16-Dec. 16, 1849, marked: Mr. Shearer's journal. Partially written in pencil; the first two pages very faded.
