George H. Atkinson, a Congregational minister in the Pacific Northwest, graduated from Dartmouth College in 1843 and from Andover Theological Seminary in 1846. Unable to accept an appointment to a mission in Africa because he had not yet been ordained, he sailed to Oregon by way of Hawaii with his wife, arriving in 1848. Charles Baker Kittredge (1806-1884) attended Dartmouth College and was graduated from the Andover Theological Seminary in 1832. He was ordained to the Prebyterian ministry in 1833 and served as the pastor to the churches in Groton, Monson, and Westborough, Mass. He was also an assistant minister in the church in Worcester, Mass., from 1853 to 1856. Kittredge married Sarah Brigham (1815-1871) of Grafton, Mass., and they had eight children.
