York; correspondence, Oct., 1870, of Albert Boyd Otis; letters, 1869-1871, from Hall Jackson Kelley concerning early history of Oregon (including four of his Beloved Brethren series); material for the history of Oregon (a catalogue of books and pamphlets). Contains the letter by Rev. John W. York on p. 41-58.

Born in Mason County, Virginia in 1810, Jessy Quinn Thornton was educated at the University of Virginia where he studied law.
