Silvestre Terrazas papers, circa 1883-1944.

Contains not only excellent files of his own newspapers, but a mass of letters and documents concerning his most active years, especially beginning with the 1910 election. Among his correspondents were such men as Miguel and Vito Alessio Robles, Venustiano Carranza, Felipe Angeles, Governor Fidel Avila of Chihuahua, the Banco Nacional de México, Plutarco Elías Calles, Enrique C. Creel, Ignacio C. Enríquez, Adolfo de la Huerta, Ricardo Flores Magón, and literally hundreds of others, many of national stature. Pt. I: correspondence; drafts and copies of newspaper articles, columns and editorials; accounts; clippings; pictures; and personalia. Mainly concerning his newspaper career as editor of El Correo de Chihuahua, Mexico, and La Patria, El Paso, Texas; his role in the Mexican revolutionary movement; and political positions held in Pancho Villa's government. Born in Chihuahua and educated there and in Mexico City, Terrazas early in life dedicated himself to a journalistic career. He founded and edited, for the Bishop of Chihuahua, Dr. Jesús J. Ortiz, the Revista Católica, a weekly, 1896-1901. He also founded a monthly literary review, la Lira Chihuahuense, in 1896 which continued until 1901.
