Painter Ferdinand Burgdorff was born in Cleveland, Ohio and studied at the Cleveland School of Art. He was a pupil of Menard in Paris, and he came to the southwestern United States in the 1900s. He is best known for his paintings of native Americans, Southwestern landscapes, and scenes on the Monterey Penninsula.
