Long regarded as one of America's most gifted writers, Wright Morris authored over thirty-three books. He was born in Central City, Nebraska, on 6 January 1910. His novel, A Field of Vision, won the National Book Award in 1957, and Plains Song won the 1981 American Book Award for Fiction. John W. Aldridge (1922-2007) was a noted literary critic, author, and professor of English at the University of Michigan. A World War II veteran, Aldridge was director of the Hopwood Program and served as a special ambassador to Germany through the United States Information Agency (USIA) in 1972-1973.
