His diary records the movements of his unit from Boston to New York where a number of skirmishes in the period from April 1 to April 28 are recorded. Blake then recounts his unit's march to Quebec with General John Sullivan as reinforcements for the ill-fated American invasion of Canada. Blake records the six week march (April 28 to June 7), the action at Sorel, and the subsequent retreat to Crown Point (June 14 to June 23). After a time in encampment at Crown Point, Fort Ticonderoga, and Mount Independence, Blake received a pass (on Octover 6) and started home. The diary concludes with an entry on October 7. In addition to the diary, there are also a number of tunes with music, and at the conclusion of the volume, there are several pages of tanner's accounts for the period 1782-1800.
