The Wendell H. Oswalt Papers consist of carbon copies of anthropological field notes recorded by Oswalt in Bethel, Alaska, from September 1955 through August 1956; an undergraduate term paper by Oswalt titled "The origin of spruce driftwood at Hooper Bay, Alaska"; a photocopy of Oswalt's finding aid to "Russian America," a Bancroft Library collection of translations of Russian publications concerning Russian settlement in Alaska and California; two reference copy photographs of buildings at Kolmakovsky, Alaska; and the galley proofs of Oswalt's book Alaskan Eskimos, published in 1967. The book analyzes the subcultural diversity of Alaska Natives using archaeological and anthropological data.
