Kept while a member of the Walworth County Mutual Mining Company, describing journey from Ohio to California via New Mexico and Arizona, encounters with Indians, and hunting buffaloes. Journal also contains a description of the steamer Antelope on the commencement of his return voyage to Panama, December 1850. A few sketches, some Indian words, and an index also included. Transcription also available as volume 2.
