Henri Gaudier, French sculptor, painter, and writer, who resided in London, was one of the earliest abstract sculptors and an exponent of the Vorticist movement. He adopted the name Brzeska after he met his companion, Sophie Brzeska. Gaudier was instrumental in introducing modern art to England in the early 20th century.
