Interview of Capt. Bruce C. Jones, USCG, begins with a brief history of his USCG career, from helicopter flight school, to becoming flight instructor, and eventually commanding Air Station New Orleans; detailed descriptions of pre-hurricane Katrina planning requiring Capt. Jones evacuate his flight crews from New Orleans and eventually divide his crews into two groups after Katrina passes: one team begins search and rescue operations, while he leads the second team to assess the New Orleans Air Station as a viable operating base for recovery operations which required a working fuel truck and emergency generators, non-flooded landing zones, and rest areas.
