[Telegram, 1862] May 15, Washington, Miss., via Fayette [to] Brig. Gen. [Thos.] Jordan / C. G. Dahlgren.

The telegram to Jordan, chief of staff to General Beauregard, announces the fall of Natchez, Miss. and the imminent attack on Vicksburg. The telegram is mis-dated 1861 and is on letterhead: South-Western Telegraph Company. At the bottom of the telegram is a note in Beauregard's hand: Regret can afford no assistance at present--hope soon to be able to do so--G. T. B."

Charles G. Dahlgren was the Confederate Brigadier General, Commander of the 3rd Brigade, Army of Mississippi during the U. S. Civil War. He was a banker and businessman in various states in southern United States. Other members of the Dahlgren family fought on the Union side durning the Civil War.
