American cookbook, probably from the middle Atlantic region, with recipes for cakes, puddings, jumbles, waffles, ice cream, cranberry jelly, oyster soup, "To Cure Bacon," "To Cure Tongues," "To Cure Shad," and "To Dress a Rock[fish]." Some recipes attributed to Miss Owings, Mrs. Etting, Mrs. Grundy, Mrs. Lloyd, Mrs. Eustis and John Wilkins, among others. Also includes recipes for blackening, paint, and "varnish for paintings." Several leaves laid in, one dated 1848 with recipe for apple jelly, one Mrs. Raper's Receipt for the Rheumatism on the back of a leaf from an account book.
