Nathaniel Wheelwright's diary, probably written after the event, of his journey from Boston to Canada from 3 Nov. 1753 - 7 Sep. 1754 for the purpose of redeeming English citizens captured by the French and Indians. Included are descriptions of his commission by Gov. Shirley of Mass. to retrieve the prisoners; his journey by land through Mass., N.Y., Montreal, and Quebec; his meetings and negotiations with the French and Indians for an English child; and his voyage on the St. Lawrence River from Quebec to Louisbourg and return to Boston.
