This collection consists of one octavo volume, four folio volumes, and one folder with loose items. The octavo volume is an undated catalog of books which lists the titles (cost and numbers of volumes per title) and notations possibly indicating what became of the book after the library's demise. The first folio volume, 1830-1834, is mostly blank, but includes the library's rules and regulations, lists of members and officers, minutes of meetings, 1830, and a copy of the act of incorporation. The second folio volume, undated, is a catalog of library books listing the books alphabetically by author and including the edition of the book, number of volumes, value, and remarks on the previous owner. Folio volume three is a record of borrowers, 1830-1847, listing the name of the reader, the book's title, and the dates it was borrowed and returned. The fourth volume is mostly blank, but lists the books members have deposited in the library, and includes the number of volumes and the value of the books. The manuscript folder contains a copy of the act of incorporation; agreements to establish the Atheneum; and a lease for a room, 1830; treasurers' accounts, along with lists of books, 1831; a catalog of books, 1832; and miscellaneous memoranda, 1830-1842.

The Worcester County Atheneum was founded in 1830 for the purpose of establishing a subscription library in Worcester, Massachusetts. The American Antiquarian Society was founded in Worcester, Mass., in 1812, largely through the efforts of Isaiah Thomas (1749-1831).
