Williams' papers, 1778-1806, include a letter written to his friend Rev. Jeremy Belknap (1744-1798) of Dover, N.H., concerning an invitation to visit Belknap in 1778; and a letter to Governor James Bowdoin (1726-1790) summarizing the research being conducted into establishing the boundary between New York and Massachusetts in 1787. There are also seven pages of "Astronomical Observations ..." performed by Williams to determine the northern boundary of Vermont, 1806; and a typescript summary of statistics contained in Williams' account book for the period September 1798 to September 1803, divided into Sales, Advertisements, and Printing commissions. The account book was kept during his tenure as newspaper editor. Included are entries concerning the sale of private and commercial advertisements, pamphlets, books, broadsides, blank legal documents, newspapers, and miscellaneous printing supplies. Williams also recorded the printing of a number of books, pamphlets, and tickets. His customers occasionally paid him in goods or work credits. See also the Society's manuscript collection "Williams Family Diaries," which includes a diary of Samuel William's father Warham Williams.
