Records, 1790-1826.

This volume, which contains the records of the library from 1790 to 1826, includes rules and regulations for borrowing books, by-laws, lists of the library's proprietors, and principles to be followed. Apparently, memberships in the library required the purchase of "rights" to its use from existing members in the form of cash or book donations. Lists of new members appear in the volume, as well as articles of agreement, minutes of proprietors' meetings, list of books received or purchased, and treasurer's reports. Captain Nehemiah Lyon (1719-1807) was one of the leading proprietors referred to in these records.
