Papers, 1862-1892.

The collection consists of a diary for 1865 with line-a-day entries (mostly concerning local events and church attendance), a passport made out to Pratt, and ten letters to Pratt, 1862-1892, from various friends and acquaintances. Five of the letters were written by Frank J. Daniels ( - ) during the Civil War. Daniels was a soldier occupying towns in North Carolina in 1863. The letters contain candid and witty accounts of military life during the Civil War, referring to such things as the advantages of being an officer (listing a number of interesting benefits), searching southern women for letters and supplies, and drill practice. Also included is a letterbook 1882-1893, containing copies of letters written by Pratt mainly concerning the settlement of his father's estate and leases on various properties around Worcester. It contains an alphabetical index of all recipients included in the letterbook. In addition there are seven loose letters from Samuel Sidney McClure (1857- ) to Charles Albert Hazlett (1847- ) concerning articles to be written for the Wheelman magazine.
