Diary, 1777; 1781-1783.

While serving in the Continental Army, Man kept a diary from 1777 to 1783 in Benjamin West's (1730-1813) New England Almanacks for Providence, Rhode Island published in 1777 and 1781. Man made numerous marginal notes concerning deaths, crops, finances, weather, and the Revolutionary War. Typical comments refer to entering the Army, military expeditions, important American victories, such as Cornwallis' surrender at Yorktown, the movements of Generals Arnold, Gates, and Burgoyne, the return of cousin Jeremiah Man (1759-1814) from British captivity while privateering, and deaths due to smallpox following inoculations.
