This collection of Howe family papers from 1775 to 1845, includes four account books and a folder of miscellaneous papers from 1775 to 1822, including: a notebook of poems and addresses, patriotic and religious in nature, written and read by Solomon Howe at Dartmouth from 1775 to 1777; Solomon Howe's 1778 notebook containing a few personal accounts, and notations about printing matters; and a 1777 letter written by Solomon Howe to the Continental Congress suggesting greater use of the country's natural resources. The account books include a volume of personal accounts and printing accounts, including the sale of almanacs, kept by John Howe, 1819-1835; farm accounts kept by John Howe, 1832-1844; printing accounts kept by John Howe, 1832-1845; and an account book of the estate of Jonah Howe (1789-1834), 1834-1838, kept by his brothers, John and Solomon Howe, who were the executors of his will.

Solomon Howe (1750-1835) was born in North Brookfield, Mass., and died in New Salem, Mass. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1777, and was preacher, teacher, printer and farmer simultaneously.
