This collection consists of papers relating to Foley's bookselling business and his interest in bibliography. There are miscellaneous accounts, records, lists, and correspondence, 1894-1935. A major correspondent is Carroll Atwood Wilson (1886-1946) of New York. Wilson's letters, 1930-1934, discuss bibliographical matters and the acquisition of literary items. There is also a folio volume of correspondence with bibliographical lists, 1894-1900, and an account book, 1897-1908, relating to Foley's work, American Authors, 1795-1895 (1897). Included in the collection is an octavo account book of sales from 1908 to 1911. This volume also contains a record of insurance policies, 1907-1920, and other miscellaneous information. The second octavo volume contains a list of contributors, 1828-1842, to The Token, a literary annual. The index was compiled by Foley, c. 1890s. Some of the references in the volume are included in Indices to American Literary Annuals and Gift Books, 1825-1865.

Patrick Kevin Foley (1856-1937) was born in Ireland and came to the United States in 1881. He started as a travelling book salesman and later became a general agent for subscription book houses. He developed into a bibliographical expert and a great antiquarian bookseller, starting in business in 1896. His knowledge of New England authors was considerable and in 1897 he published American Authors, 1795-1895. A Bibliography of First and Notable Editions Chronologically Arranged with Notes. Foley ...
