Four of the children of Charlotte Barrell Cheever (1778-1854) and Nathaniel Cheever (1778-1819) are represented in this collection. Cheever, a nephew of Aaron Bancroft, after having been apprenticed to Isaiah Thomas, moved to Hallowell, Maine and founded the Hallowell American Advocate in 1810.
