Charles Knowles Bolton (1867-1950) graduated from Harvard in 1890 and began his library career when Oscar Fay Adams introduced him to Justin Winsor at the Harvard Library. Bolton spent 35 years as Librarian at the Boston Athenaeum, retiring in March 1933. He was an influential resident of Shirley, Mass., and active in many charitable and scholarly organizations. This pen and ink drawing is based on an original watercolor drawing by William Walker now in the Boston Athenaeum's Prints & Photographs Department. Walker's watercolor was commissioned by Charles E.
