Papers concern the life and career of Douai (1819-1888), writer, editor, and educator, and deal with his early life in Germany and eastern Europe and his involvement in the Revolution of 1848; his journey to Texas and his work there as a political liberal, abolitionist, educator, and publisher of the San Antonio Zeitung; and his political exile from Texas and subsequent political, academic, and journalistic careers in Boston, Hoboken, and New York.
