Miscellaneous papers including a treatise, 1781, advocating close ties between the northern colonies and South Carolina and Georgia, then under British control, and emphasizing the strategic and economic importance of the southern colonies to an independent American confederation. Also, an application, 1782, from Walton, Button Gwinnett, and Lyman Hall to the Georgia legislature for permission to import slaves from East Florida; and letters concerning William Few, Jr.'s service in the Continental Congress and the Constitutional Convention. Also includes two letters, 1789, from George Washington concerning the federal treasury, the census, and a national day of thanksgiving; letter, 1790, from Thomas Jefferson concerning the census, naturalization laws, and the appropriation of government funds; document, 1800, appointing Nicholas Ware the guardian of a free black woman and her three children in order to protect their free status; petitions concerning the settlement of estates; and legal papers pertaining to the payment of debts.
