Letters by a number of leading Methodists, including John Wesley, to John Wesley Thomas, concerning speaking engagements or minor church matters. There are several letters from authors commenting on Thomas' translations of Dante. Letters of 1870 reflect on the early days of Methodism in England. The collection also contains some items relating to Thomas' son, John Drayton Thomas, also a Wesleyan clergyman.

John Wesley, evangelist and founder of Methodism, was born 17 June 1703, in Epworth, Lincolnshire, England, and died 2 March 1791, in London, England. He was educated at Christ Church College, Oxford (1724); was ordained a deacon in the Church of England (1725); and was elected a fellow of Lincoln College (1726).
