William Morrill Wadley (1813-1882), railroad executive and plantation owner, was associated with the Central of Georgia Railway (ca. 1844-ca. 1851, 1853), Western and Atlantic Railroad (1852), New Orleans, Jackson and Great Northern Railroad (ca. 1858-1859), Southern Railroad (ca. 1859-1860), Vicksburg and Shreveport Railroad (ca. 1860-1865), and Central Railroad (1866-1882). The Central Rail Road and Canal Company was organized in 1833 by a group of Savannah businessmen. In 1835, its name changed to Central Rail Road and Banking Company of Georgia. The company was sold and reorganized as the Central of Georgia Railway in 1895. IN 1971, the name changed to Central of Georgia Railroad.
