Business and personal correspondence of Samuel A. Marsteller and of his father, P.G. Marsteller, evidently a merchant in Alexandria, Va., consisting of letters and deeds relative to land in the West, letters to and from Samuel while a student at Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa.; letters from a friend in Kentucky describing the land; letters from a brother in Charleston, S.C., describing social and business activities there; legal papers, business and personal letters and bills of Samuel after he settled in Prince William Co. in 1828; and a few letters of the Civil War period concerning Samuel's son, Le Claire, while at the Virginia Military Institute, and in the vicinity of Harpers Ferry.
