Letters, 1863-1869.

Photocopies of letters written to his father, the Rev. John M. Forbes, mostly from the Far East and Utah. Letters from Salt Lake City (1866) describe his work for the Argenta Mining Company, which operated silver mines in Stockton, Utah; and also contain some mention of Mormon activities. Letters from Hong Kong (1864, 1866-68), Shanghai (1864), Yokohama (1865), and Canton (1868-69) describe his employment in the China trade firm of Russell and Co., and discuss other merchants and the firm's partners, particularly his brother Francis B. Forbes, cousin William H. Forbes, and uncle Paul S. Forbes.
