Letter, 1790 June 22, Vincennes, Ind. [to] Robert Morris, New York.

Born in Massachusetts, John Symmes moved to New Jersey in 1770. He was active in the Revolution and a member of the Continental Congress. In 1788 he was named a judge in the newly created Northwest Territory, and often had disagreements with governor Arthur St. Clair. His daughter married William Henry Harrison.
