Thomas Holdsworth Blake was an attorney, U.S. congressman from Indiana, and Commissioner of the General Land Office. Blake was born in Maryland and studied law in Washington, D.C. where he was a member of the District of Columbia militia. During the War of 1812, his unit fought at the Battle of Bladensburg in 1814. Lewis H. Sands, born in Baltimore, moved to Kentucky in 1825 and to Greencastle, Ind. in 1826. He was a merchant, postmaster, and Indian agent, and in 1835 he supervised the removal of the Potawatomie Indians to the West. He served a term in the Indiana House in 1832-1833. He was appointed a colonel during the Civil War, fell ill at Camp Morton in 1861, and soon died. From the description of Letter and Clipping, 1828. (Indiana Historical Society Library).
