Letter, 1865 May 12, Cincinnati, Ohio [to] Oliver P. Morton, Indianapolis.

The collection consists of a three page letter, May 12, 1865, from Miller in Cincinnati to Morton in Indianapolis, asking Morton to exercise clemency for Copperheads Lambdin P. Milligan, William A. Bowles, and Stephen Horsey. Milligan and Horsey were scheduled to be executed for treason; Morton worked to have the sentence commuted.

Indiana lawyer, judge, and Republican politician. Morton served as the state's lieutenant governor in 1861, and as governor from 1861 to 1867.
