The collection consists primarily of Samuel List's Civil War letters from Virginia and Maryland to his parents in Hopewell from 1861 to 1864. Also included are List's diaries from 1862 and 1863, and the papers of Theodore List relating to his farm and to the church and academy at Hopewell, Ind.
