Consists of correspondence, notebooks, record and documents relating to Alexander's legal career and business ventures, including land, water, mining companies, irrigation districts and corporations, primarily in the Phoenix area; also has material on the Spanish American War and his service with the Arizona Rough Riders as Captain of Troop C. Also included are papers of his wife, Grace Forbes Alexander: correspondence, reports, scrapbooks, programs, yearbooks, newspaper clippings, and campaign material relating to her political activities and the cultural life of Phoenix. Material deals with Arizona Federation of Women's Clubs (1915-20), Daughters of the American Revolution (1913-1956), United Spanish War Veterans Auxiliary (1904-50), Theodore Roosevelt House, New York (1912-33), and local cultural organizations.

Joseph Lancaster Brent Alexander was a partner with Lloyd Christy in the law firm of Alexander and Christy in Phoenix from ca. 1900-1930. Alexander served as Captain in Troop C of the Rough Riders in the Spanish-American War. His first wife was Amanda Salsig; they had a son, Henry, and a daughter, Helen.
