Personal letters from Haines to his wife. Those for the years 1826-1828 give interesting descriptions of travel, and of social and economic conditions in various places in North Carolina, including Orange, Caswell, and Person counties, and the towns of Halifax, Hillsboro, Louisburg, Oxford, Raleigh, Roxboro, and Warrenton. Included also is a notebook with genealogical information on the Haines family and poetry of Hiram Haines.
