Diaries, 1816-1878.

Diary notes of Hope Savage Shaw, second wife of Lemuel Shaw, written on pages of the Boston Almanac for the years 1839-1878. The occasional brief entries make references to the comings and goings of her husband in his busy career as Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Court; her husband's daughter by his first marriage, Elizabeth, and her husband Herman Melville; Shaw's sons Lemuel and Samuel Savage Shaw; and other members of the Shaw and Savage families. Shaw notes visits, correspondence, deaths and daily activities and events. There are also a few brief diary entries for years prior to her marriage.
