Correspondence, notebook, military order books, letter book, and business accounts. Includes letters to his niece, Jane A. Puryear, concerning his activity in public life, a projected trip to Europe in 1859, and family matters; a letter from Clingman recommending the appointment of Bushrod W. Vick to a consulship; and a letter, 1863, to Clingman concerning desertion in his brigade during his absence. The remainder of the collection is volumes, including three order books for Clingman's brigade, 1862-1864, containing orders and letters, 276 items, concerning Confederate military activities around Camp Whiting, N.C., and a notebook used in Clingman's law studies.
