Principally letters from George Santayana, poet, novelist, and philosopher, to Clemens, editor the the Mark Twain Quarterly and cousin of Samuel Clemens. Santayana discusses personal matters, his own writing, and the writing of others based on his life and philosophy. The collection also contains a manuscript of Santayana's article, Tom Sawyer and Don Quixote, and galleys of other pieces with Santayana's corrections.
