Transcript copies. Chiefly letters written by Champion to his wife Matilda Montgomery Champion during the Civil War, describing his military activities in the 28th Mississippi Cavalry in the defense of Vicksburg, 1862-1863, and campaigns in Georgia and under John Bell Hood in Tennessee, 1864-1865. Also includes elaborate instructions to his wife, who was living on a refugee farm in Mississippi, and comments on refugees and other social and economic developments of the period.
