Letters from Dr. Henry J. Millard of North Adams, Mass. to his family during the last few months of the Civil War. Millard, who was an Army surgeon in the 34th regiment of the Mass. Volunteer Infantry, discusses his role in providing medical care; camps and fighting in Richmond, Petersburg, and other areas of Virginia; the Appomattox Campaign and the surrender of the Confederate forces and its immediate consequences.
