This collection (1918-2004, n.d.) contains biographical information, correspondence, and photographs. The papers also include materials that document Petersen's efforts in the preservation of the Farm House Museum. In addition, the papers includes a scrapbook given to Petersen in recognition for all of her hard work for the Farm House.

On March 22, 1948, Iowa State College (University) sponsored a 90th anniversary celebration in honor of the founding of the college, which occurred on the same date in 1858 when the charter act establishing a state agricultural college became law. Neva Maurine Petersen was born December 18, 1907, in Charter Oak, Iowa, to William and Maude Spencer Petersen. She received her B.S. (1930) in applied art and M.A. (1948) from Iowa State College (University). Petersen taught high school art courses in Ankeny, Iowa (1931-1935); Newton, Iowa (1935-1945); and Austin, Minnesota (1947-1948).
